How Whatnot's fees work
Whatnot charges two separate things. Commission is Whatnot's share of the sale and falls as your sales grow. Payment processing is the cost of taking the buyer's payment. Both come out of what you receive.
Commission: tiered by your sales
Your total sales over a four-week (28-day) period decide your tier, and that tier sets your rate for the next period. Sales in all categories count towards the total. For live sales the rate follows the category of the show. Sports and TCG use the same rates:
| Four-week sales | Commission |
|---|---|
| Standard ($0–$14,999) | 8.00% |
| Tier 1 ($15k–$34,999) | 7.75% |
| Tier 2 ($35k–$49,999) | 7.50% |
| Tier 3 ($50k–$99,999) | 7.25% |
| Tier 4 ($100k–$249,999) | 7.00% |
| Tier 5 ($250k–$499,999) | 6.75% |
| Tier 6 ($500k+) | 6.50% |
Commission is charged on the item price only. Shipping and tax the buyer pays are not included. Whatnot also mentions rates "as low as 3%" for its highest-volume sellers with an account manager; that is a custom rate and is not modelled here.
Processing: on the whole order
In the US, processing is 2.9% of the total order value paid by the buyer (card, buyer-paid shipping and taxes) plus $0.30 per transaction.
Premier Shop
Through October 31 the Premier Shop discount takes 10% off your commission rate (Whatnot's example: 5% becomes 4.5%). From November 1 Premier Shop no longer includes a commission discount. The calculator has a toggle for it until then.
| Commission, 8% of $50.00 | $4.00 |
|---|---|
| Processing, 2.9% of $54.50 plus $0.30 | $1.88 |
| Total fees | $5.88 |
| You receive (card price minus fees; the $4.50 shipping pays the label) | $44.12 |
